How To Use Eye Gel or Cream and Face Serum?

| i Heart Marina

Today, I’m sharing two of my current favorite skin care products, 40 Carrots eye gel with carrot + cucumber and vitamin serum with carrot + vitamin C. Honestly, I’m noticing changes to the appearance of my skin within a week of use.

EYE GEL or CREAM: Did you know that the eyelid is the thinnest skin on the body? Since it’s constantly active because we blink about 10,000 times a day, the skin around the eye area is the first to show age. So, a little extra TLC can go along way. I always say this, think of your eye cream as you do of your morning coffee: An instant pick-me-upper.

Eye creams or gels keep the skin moist and that makes us look younger. When wrinkles get dry, they look deeper and worse. Therefore, using a good and gentle moisturize, eye cream or gel can help keep our skin moist so, the fine lines don’t show up as much.

I can’t emphasize enough how crucial it is to use eye cream or gel. You don’t necessarily have to have wrinkles but it’s definitely preventative. I don’t think there really is a specific age to start using day and night cream. Although, I would love to see my daughters incorporating the eye cream or gel into the daily skin care regime, I’d have to say after 16 years of age or so. And it does have to be o my eye gels or creams, it can include day and night time moisturizers, serums, masks and etc…

I started out using different facial creams and serums around age of 18 and that is because my mother is also an esthetician and so, she taught me the importance of taking care of my skin at an early age. Honestly, it really would hurt to start using eye creams or gels early in age. Taking care of the skin around your eyes will slow down the clock.  As for people with excessively dry skin, very noticeable dark circles or developing crow’s feet are the best candidates and they should use it regularly.

40 Carrots Eye Gel: Review
I’ve purchased the 40 Carrots eye gel from Marshall’s for about $4.00 and not knowing if it was going to be good or not. I figured I’d give it a try and the results are great! I love the slight tingly feeling on my skin when I apply this product under my eyes. It works well and refines the skin around my eyes. On top of it all it’s paraben free.

I use it at night only because it contains retinol. Skin care products with retinol should never be used during the day since it can slightly burn your skin and cause allergic reaction. This is a serious fact that cosmetic companies seem to ignore nowadays. Although, it state on the bottle for day and night use, I still suggest you use it an night only! If you’re interested in using an eye gel/ cream day time make sure it does not contain retinol. Also, If you are pregnant, I don’t recommend you use any retinol products either. It’s always a great idea to double check with your physician.

What ingredients should I look out for while shopping for eye cream?
Here’s my personal list.

  1. Caffeine (helps constrict blood vessels and reduce puffiness under the eyes);
  2.  Peptides (promotes and stimulate las collagen production );
  3.  Antioxidants (prevent free radical damage to the skin and niacin amide to reduce discoloration);
  4.  Brighteners (improves color of dark under-eyes);
  5. Silicone/Dimethicone (helps prime skin and creates a smooth surface for make up.

How to Apply The Eye Gel or Cream?
All you need is a pea-sized amount in after washing your face. A delicate touch is the most important aspect of eye cream application. The skin around the eye area should be treated with gentle and upward strokes using your pinky, which naturally has a lighter touch than using your pointer finger.

FACIAL SERUM: Adopting a facial serum seems intimidating at first with its hefty price tag but really, you don’t have to break a bank for it. There are cost-effective serums on the market that provide all of the beneficial properties found in expensive formulas.

Face serums are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin. The reason why I personally prefer face serum is because it leaves out many of the heavier ingredients that are found in traditional moisturizers. Additionally, serums help give your skin a fresher, younger and healthier appearance because it contains a much higher proportional concentration of active ingredients.

Using a serum regularly can give your skin a smoother, firmer texture making pores appear smaller and increase the moisture level. Personally, I prefer using face serum in conjunction with heavier moisturizer night time and if it’s day time make sure the moisturizer contains SPF.

40 Carrots Facial Serum: Review
I’ve purchased a 40 Carrots facial serum {carrot + vitamins C} and it cost me $7.00 and as I have mentioned before with 40 Carrots facial products I have noticed results immediately, in other words, within a week or so. The product contains a carotene powered antioxidant serum to recharge and beautify stressed skin. It contains retinol rich ingredient (which means night time use only)  with carrot and vitamin C. Additionally, it’s paraben free, less irritating than prescription form. I use this serum before I go to bed. I  wash my face, use a toner, then apply 40 Carrot serum followed by nigh time moisturizer. I definitely see a difference on my face. My skin feels smoother and has noticeable glow.

What ingredients should I look out for while shopping for face serum?

  1. Hydrators (Such as amino acid, ceramides and essential fatty acids strengthen the skin’s barrier and helps build strong membrane cell. It also protect against dryness and fine lines by replenishing naturally occurring skin lipids and improving moisture retention.)
  2. Antixodants (Such as vitamin C, pomegranate and grape seed extract help protect against sun damage and skin aging, including fine lines.)
  3.  Anti-inflammatories (Such as aloe Vera, arnica, zinc, and goldenseal, neutralize redness and prevent inflammatory cell damage)

How to apply face serum?
What I like to do is to apply the serum on a damp skin right after I wash my face in the morning because moist skin is 10 times more permeable than dry skin. At night, after I wash my make up I usually cleanse my face with a toner followed by applying serum on my face.

When to discard an eye cream/gel or face serum?
Although both products, eye cream/gel and face serum have expiration dates however, generally speaking all products last up to 18 months after they’re first opened. So, it’s recommended that you use them within the first six months when the ingredients are most potent.
